Happy Thanksgiving from Champion Video! We have had an extremely busy year with a couple huge events to go before 2015 comes to a close. What a great year! We are so thankful for all of our clients, new and old. Some of our clients have been with us for over 15 years while others we are just getting to know! We love covering events and 2015 was full of them. From Dance Recitals and Figure Skating Shows to Large Scale Multi-Day Outdoor Concerts, 2015 had us driving all over the Midwest! It’s been a great year for new additions to our equipment as well. Although we purchased our 17′ camera jib/crane in 2014…we didn’t start using until 2015. We used it at Lifest, LifeLight, EAA Warbirds in Review, and Mesopotamian Nights at North Shore Theater in Chicago. It performend better than we could have expected and look forward to the value that it can bring to our company. We recently sold one of our cameras and replaced it with a 4k Camera to begin testing integrating 4k into our workflow. It has been a year that has been filled with things to be thankful for. I am especially thankful for being able to make a living providing video services for others!
News and Updates
Busy Season
We are smack dab in the middle of what I like to call our “busy season”. We have wrapped up Figure Skating Shows for the year and are nearing the end of our Dance Recital season as well. This week we will be filming two graduations and two dance shows. The Graduations will both by streamed live to the internet so that foreign exchange student’s families and others who can not attend have the chance to see the event as it happens. Live streaming has become more and more affordable and easier to bring to the masses than ever before! For both of these graduations we will be offering a 3 camera live mix of the action! Champion Video Spotlighted on Thumbtack
For the past few years, we have used a lead generating referral service called Thumbtack. Through thumbtack we have had the opportunity to work for clients that we would have never found elsewhere. Our first client from Thumbtack was Paul Wesselmann, also known as “The Ripples Guy”. Paul has hired us several times over the past few years and it’s always great recording his positive keynote messages. We were also hired by the “Serial Killer Whisperer” when he delivered a presentation in Oshkosh, WI. In fact, the majority of clients that have found us on Thumbtack, would have never had heard of our company if it were not for Thumbtack! Thumbtack has recently featured Champion Video in a Spotlight. If you want to check it out, you can see it here.
Dance! Dance! Dance!
We are moving (pun intended) into our Dance Review/Recital Season as we are wrapping up our Ice Shows. Ice Shows and Dance Recitals share many things in common. From a production standpoint, we generally use 3 cameras and try to faithfully reproduce what the show actually looked like. We use special sound equipment to get the sounds of the skater moving about or the dancers tapping, clapping, or yelling “Hey!”. All of these things come together in editing where we compile a high definition video file with several audio sources, add a menu and chapters and then create our masters. We create both Blu-ray and DVD masters. Blu-ray allows home viewers to watch the event in High Definition while DVD is standard definition.
In The Spotlight and KidStage Appleton
Busy day with two crews going out to two different events. Today and tomorrow we will be covering KidStage’s production of Annie, Jr. at the Edge Stage. They put on 10 shows and we will cover all of them. Videos can be ordered here: https://championvideoonline.com/kidstage/ We also will cover Wausau Academy of Dance’s In The Spotlight tonight at Wausau East High School for the Solo Dance Show. Videos for that event can be ordered here: https://championvideoonline.com/wausau-academy-of-dance-solos/
Ice Show Season is Here!
Well we just got done with our Ice Skating Competition season and now we are moving on to Ice Shows! This year we will be covering Ice Shows in Mosinee, Beaver Dam, Appleton, Kettle Moraine, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan. This past weekend we covered Manitowoc on Saturday and Sheboygan on Sunday. Ice show’s can be a challenge to shoot because rinks are not theatrical stages. Their sound systems might be a closed system with no ability to pull a line feed. They may be using inadequate lighting, or perhaps a lot of lighting, that create hot spots on the ice. For many reasons, Ice Shows are challenging to record and one of the reasons we love doing them!
The Ripples Guy
Did you know that there is a guy out there who wants to motivate you each and every week to bring your best self to work, relationships, and life in general? Well there is, and his name is Paul Wesselmann, also known as The Ripples Guy. Paul is a nationally known and highly sought keynote speaker who’s presentations are thought-provoking, humorous, and engaging. Champion Video has had the pleasure of recording Paul on a few different occasions over the past few years. Check out a few of his clips here: https://www.facebook.com/ripplesguy/posts/10155258357590010

2015 Badger State Games

Kaukauna Dance Classic 2015
This past weekend we were hired by Kaukauna Dance Classic to provide high definition digital videos of all of their performances. The event started at 9 am and went until about 7pm at night. We captured 128 performances by 60 teams with about 1000 dancers. All the routines are already processed and uploaded to our private server. All coaches will receive an email from one of the coordinators of the event that will have a link where they can download their dance routines. The coaches in turn can send these links to all of their dancers so that everyone has access to the digital videos. We also do have a physical DVD or Bluray available for purchase for any teams that also want a physical copy and don’t want to go through the trouble of making their own disc. DVDs and Blurays can be ordered in our online store here: https://championvideoonline.com/kaukauna-dance-classic/
